What makes Tibet special?

I defend the Tibetan cause because I wish to serve humanity.  In the 19th century, we were still a peace-loving nation endowed with a unique culture.  If we were rather backwards in material terms, spiritually speaking we were quite prosperous.  We are Buddhists, and the form of Buddhism that we practice is one of the most complete.  Furthermore, we have kept it really alive over the centuries.  It is not only as a Tibetan that I consider it vital to ensure the survival of this culture and of this nation; it is simply as a human being who hopes they can make a contribution to the world as a whole.
